Yo También Cantina's 8th Anni 🍾🎉

I love tamale but today I had plantain

I dropped by Yo También Cantina for their 8th Anniversary today! It's a little tamale shop in the Inner Sunset. Tamales in my opinion are one of the best carbs out there :P They serve them in metal bowls with optional sides of white beans, jammy eggs, shredded cabbage, picked red onions, and more. For their anniversary, they had a special menu sans tamale which was totally fine by me since I already ate one the day before.

There were subtle queer vibes, it being Pride weekend and all. You could see it in the people's fashion. The owner repped a 'PLEASURE' hat and another worker had super vivid rainbow eye makeup. Lots of hip twenty-to-forty something-year-olds, kids running around, and more fashionistas than the usual Inner Sunset crowd.

A trend I noticed is KNIT & NET wear: a red mesh knit beanie with sequins, tightly crocheted beanies almost like skull caps, an ombre fish net bodysuit, and a leather lattice-laced backpack. You could find a similar aesthetic in the green milkcrates with cutouts that people were sitting on. The attitude felt revealing and not at the same time.

I hope someone out there enjoys the photos I took! I felt a bit shy to ask for photos since I'm just getting back into it. Also, it's a bit complex these days with street photography and data privacy. Like, what are the rules? For now, I'll try my best not to incriminate anybody lol. To conclude, how cool are these dreamy shiny highlights in these pics? They were made possible by my mist filter lens! So delectable nomnommnomnomnom.

Until the next awesome thing I eat! -Lydia

I had the Platano Split, which did not disappoint. Think of an amazing carbo-load boat with the sweet starchy savory goodness of a plantain, split in half and stuffed with cheeses and peanuts. I'm honestly not sure what other sauces and toppings it had, but I just know that I want to eat it again. The dense combo of plantains, cheese, and peanuts was chef's kiss.

They had cute little cups of Mangonada Slushees that were very tart and nicely chilled. It's honestly a flavor profile that I'm not used to, but it was really fresh and to my surprise I drank it all. These days, I'm trying to be open to flavors I'm not acquainted with yet. I try to remember that once upon a time, I couldn't even eat Chipotle because of the cilantro-lime rice, but now I scarf it up with absolute joy. Sometimes it takes a couple tries before a new flavor or cuisine makes sense.

I love the look of the dark red dried chiles and florals that
hang against their limewashed walls.

🎵People were vibing to the DJ's set: 90s R&B mixed with world music on top of wavy beats. There was even sitar playing at one point. They requested reggaeton, but the mishmash of genres fit the turnout and gave it a fun energy.
