Moving and money

I'm practically all settled into my new studio! Just don't mind the unfinished Ikea dining table lying upside down on the floor. Since moving to the city, I have accumulated many new and pre-owned home furnishings. Shoutout to the benevolent Lord Jeff Bezos for his contribution of maximum convenience under the guise of free market capitalism. I also scored a free desk, keyboard tray and all from Facebook Marketplace! So, as I style my apartment with pretty curtains and bathmats the billionaires are getting richer, and I feel kind of sick about that.

I am trying my best to be a mindful consumer and not a total cheap skate in the name of human decency, but I can't lie, I love a good deal. I find myself scouring the aisles of Grocery Outlet for 50 cent Poppi cans but in the same week end up at Luke's Grocery, or God forbid a Whole Foods paying twenty dollars for some pasta and a yerba mate. Meanwhile, gas prices have risen above six dollars in California and by more than 50% globally. Personally, it only stings a little though, just enough to know that we as a nation are paying some consequence for the trouble we've caused. Even though the money doesn't go into the hands of the oppressed and even though I drive an EV, something about seeing that six-dollar price makes me think that this is honestly what we deserve. Maybe this is the only way people will learn.
